The Nigerian Correctional Service’s Enugu command’s Inmates on Death Row (IDR) team won a friendly football game that was organized by the center as part of the facility’s recreational programs for inmates.
According to a statement from Enugu Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ugwu Dympunahe, the match was planned to help convicts rehabilitate and provide them access to some of the games they still like playing while being locked up.
Nicolas Obiakor, the command’s controller, who was represented by his assistant Nwigwe Leonard, made the point that participating in sports helps offenders stay calm and fit as well as progress through the reformatory process.
Usifo Joseph, the officer in charge of the Enugu detention facility, emphasized the need of “offenders engaging in recreational activities as it will help to develop them physically and mentally.
