Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, responded sharply on Tuesday to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, accusing him of neglecting to prevent Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel. This statement followed Guterres’s recent comments describing Lebanon as evolving into a “nightmare” akin to the ongoing crisis in Gaza due to Israeli airstrikes.
In a post on X, Gallant stated, “Mr. Secretary General, the nightmare you speak of is, in fact, a reality. Hezbollah has effectively taken Lebanon hostage, and the UN is failing to acknowledge their actions or meet its core responsibility of preventing Hezbollah attacks and enforcing Resolution 1701.”
Guterres addressed the UN General Assembly in New York, emphasizing the dire situation in Gaza and expressing concern about its potential to destabilize the entire region, warning that “look no further than Lebanon.”
