Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni recently made an unannounced visit to President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, her office revealed on Sunday.
Photos shared by Meloni’s team captured moments of her and Trump together, including a shot at the entrance of Mar-a-Lago and another in a reception room adorned with a Christmas tree.
While the office did not release any official statement or respond to inquiries about the visit, reports suggest the meeting included a film screening and dinner.
The photos of the two leaders quickly made headlines across Italy, dominating the front pages of Sunday’s newspapers. Meloni joins a list of international figures, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, who have recently visited Trump ahead of his upcoming inauguration on January 20.
This visit comes just before a planned four-day trip to Rome by U.S. President Joe Biden, where he is expected to meet with Meloni and Pope Francis separately.
Additional images from Meloni’s office showed her meeting with Florida Senator Marco Rubio, further highlighting the diplomatic engagements during her trip.
