Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, revealed plans to introduce a flexible workweek for state government employees during a media chat with journalists on Thursday in Lagos.
Under the proposed arrangement, civil servants from levels 1 to 14 will work from their offices for only three days a week. Meanwhile, employees on levels 15 to 17 will be required to report to their offices four times a week. This tailored approach aims to cater to the diverse needs of different grade levels within the civil service.
The initiative marks a significant shift in the work environment for public sector workers in Nigeria’s commercial hub, with a focus on enhancing productivity and job satisfaction among the state’s workforce.
The decision reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to embracing innovative work practices that accommodate employees’ needs. By reducing the number of required office days, the government anticipates various benefits, including decreased traffic congestion, lower commuting expenses, and a more relaxed work atmosphere.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized, “From next week, we are working out a plan where civil servants from level 1 to 14 will come to the office maximum three times in a week. Not all government activities will cease. It will be scheduled and calendarized. Those on level 15 to 17 will have one day off from work.”
