Justin Timberlake Arrested for DUI in New York
Pop star Justin Timberlake was arrested in New York for driving while intoxicated, according to local officials. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office reported that Timberlake was formally charged on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred in Sag Harbor, a wealthy village in the Hamptons, a favorite summer spot for celebrities on Long Island. Timberlake was pulled over just after midnight in his grey BMW for running a stop sign and veering off his lane, based on the charging documents.
Officers noted Timberlake’s bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He performed poorly on sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer test. According to reports, Timberlake told the officer, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.”

After being charged, Timberlake was released without bail. He is set to appear virtually in Sag Harbor court on July 26. His lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., has stated that he will “vigorously defend his client” and is currently reviewing evidence with the District Attorney’s Office.
Timberlake, 43, was preparing for a global tour to promote his sixth album, Everything I Thought It Was. Known for his time with the boy band NSYNC and his solo career, Timberlake is one of the world’s best-selling music artists. He has also appeared in films like The Social Network and Friends With Benefits. Timberlake has been open about seeking help for excessive drinking in the past.
Penalties for driving while intoxicated in New York can include up to a year in jail, a $1,000 fine, and a six-month license suspension. Timberlake was scheduled to perform in Chicago this weekend and at New York’s Madison Square Garden next Tuesday.
The singer is married to actress Jessica Biel, and they have two children together.
