The tragic road accident in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has claimed the lives of 40 people, most of them children. The accident occurred on Sunday around 1 pm, as the group was traveling to celebrate Eld El Maulud, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The bus they were in lost control and collided with a heavy-duty vehicle, reportedly due to overspeeding and overloading. Initially, 25 people were confirmed dead, and 48 others were rushed to hospitals in Kaduna, Jos, and Kano for treatment. However, the death toll has risen to 40 as more victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving care.
Governor Uba Sani, deeply moved by the tragedy, has directed the state commissioner of health to ensure all surviving victims receive urgent and adequate medical attention. The governor also expressed his condolences and promised to offer support to the families affected by this devastating incident.
In accordance with Islamic traditions, the remains of the victims have been laid to rest in the Lere Local Government Area.
