As part of the activities marking the start of the 2024/2025 legal year, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will swear in 87 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday in the Supreme Court’s main courtroom.
In a statement released on Friday by Festus Akande, Director of Information and Public Relations, it was announced that the Chief Justice will also deliver a state-of-the-judiciary address, reflecting on the Supreme Court’s performance and the overall state of the Nigerian judiciary during the 2023/2024 legal year.
Other key figures in the justice sector will also give speeches on the state of the nation’s legal system. These include the Attorney General of the Federation, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
The Supreme Court resumed sitting on September 23, 2024, after its annual break, which began on July 22. The official ceremony for the new legal year will take place at 10:00 AM in the court’s main courtroom.
