Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, an aspirant for the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer position, has issued a stern warning to the party’s leadership in anticipation of the flagbearer race on November 4, 2023.
Agyapong recounted instances where supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten were reportedly attacked at various voting centers. He expressed his concern that neither the police nor the Electoral Commission took action by arresting those responsible for the attacks. He also cautioned the Police and the Electoral Commission against yielding to pressure from government officials during the flagbearer contest.
He firmly stated, “I am sending a clear message to both the police personnel and the Electoral Commission: they should not allow themselves to be influenced by government officials or any Regional Chairman because if they do, I will respond in kind.” Agyapong added, “I swear to God, if the NPP leadership makes any mistakes during the presidential primaries by intervening or attacking my supporters, I will be even more relentless than Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten.”
He emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency during the presidential primaries, stating that NPP needs these qualities to unite the party. Agyapong also revealed that he was offered an $800 million bribe to withdraw from the race, but he declined the offer. He explained that he rejected the tempting offer because he prioritizes the well-being of Ghana over his personal interests.
