According to President William Ruto, coding will start being taught to Kenyan students in primary schools and universities very soon. According to him, the project aimed to increase young Kenyans’ opportunities in the digital era.
Mr. Ruto explained:
Quote Message: You have heard about coding which is going to be part of our curriculum, to make sure that coding and the whole computer eco-system and tech eco-system becomes part of our journey from primary school all the way to our universities.”
He said this at a tech and innovation forum where Microsoft, Google, and Meta officials were present.
2013 saw the failure of Kenya’s earlier, grand endeavor to give students in primary schools laptops. This was primarily caused by the fact that some schools lacked the most fundamental tools, inadequate teacher preparation, and by claims of corruption throughout the purchasing process.
