Frederick Mac-Palm, one of the main suspects in 2019 attempted overthrow of the Ghanaian government, has died.
According to local media, he collapsed at home on Saturday and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In September 2019, Mr. Mac-Palm and two others were arrested on suspicion of plotting to destabilize the country. He owned the Citadel clinic, where security officials allegedly seized several weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices.
The three are among six other suspects facing treason charges since 2019.
They were accused of belonging to the Take Action Ghana group (TAG). According to the prosecution, the group planned a series of protests and attempted to overthrow the government.
Mr. Mac-Palm is from Kpando in the eastern Volta Region, where separatists have been agitating for independence from Ghana.
In 2020, he was released on court bail.
