Kiki Iriafen Makes History in Her First Month in the League
Kiki Iriafen just pulled off something remarkable—and she’s only getting started.
The Washington Mystics forward has been named Rookie of the Month for May, becoming the first in the team’s history to claim the honor. And it’s no fluke—her numbers speak for themselves.
In just her first seven games, Iriafen delivered performances that turned heads across the league. Averaging nearly 14 points and over 10 rebounds per game, she brought energy and consistency every time she stepped on the court. Her shooting? Smooth—just under 48% from the floor.
But it was her streak between May 18 and 25 that really lit up the stat sheets. Four straight double-doubles. That’s a rare feat—last done by Natalie Williams way back in 1999. During that stretch, Iriafen also became the fastest Mystics rookie to hit the 50-point and 50-rebound milestone.
Her game is already drawing comparisons to legends. She’s the first rookie since Tina Charles in 2010 to average 12+ points and 10+ boards with over 47% accuracy in her debut month. And the Mystics haven’t seen a stat line like hers since Crystal Langhorne—fifteen years ago.
Picked fourth overall in this year’s draft, Iriafen is currently posting averages of 14.6 points and 10 rebounds per game, shooting a strong 51.7% in under 30 minutes of action each night.
From the jump, Kiki has proven she belongs—and then some.
