Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Thanks Xavi for Opening the Door to His Dream
After a standout performance that helped Barcelona secure the 2024-2025 La Liga title, young winger Lamine Yamal took a moment to acknowledge someone who played a key role in his journey—former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez.
Yamal, just 17, was a bright spark in the team’s 2-0 win over Espanyol, scoring two important goals alongside Fermin Lopez. Under current coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona clinched the league trophy, but Yamal didn’t forget the man who first believed in him.
“I want to thank Xavi,” Yamal said after the match. “Without him, none of this would have been possible.”
The young winger highlighted how Xavi’s trust in young talent helped launch his career. “He gave us the chance to debut, and I’m really grateful for that.”
Xavi’s legacy at Barcelona stretches beyond his time as a player—he shaped the team’s playing style and helped nurture promising stars during his coaching stint. Though Xavi is currently not managing any club, his impact is clearly still felt in the squad.
