Former Big Brother Naija star Leo DaSilva has taken a swipe at Yoruba elders, accusing them of selling off family land to Igbo buyers out of greed.
His remarks followed a discussion sparked by social commentator Scott Iguma, who criticized corruption in the real estate space. Iguma argued that while the Igbo community acquires land legally, many Yoruba elders prefer to cash out and spend the proceeds on luxury rather than reinvesting in their communities.
He also suggested that instead of complaining about “outsiders” owning property, leaders should channel efforts into creating infrastructure like seaports and airports in other states to spread economic opportunities.
Weighing in on the matter, Leo DaSilva said the behavior of some Yoruba elders has turned the issue into a running joke. According to him, constant family disputes over inherited property have worsened the problem, leaving the community open to ridicule.
On X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“This narrative of Yoruba elders selling family land to our Igbo people — that’s where I’ll always blame us Yoruba people. Everyone is now using it to mock us. Your parents, greedy and fighting siblings over property they didn’t even work for, caused this.”
