Bayer Leverkusen manager Xavi Alonso has weighed in on the Premier League title race, naming Arsenal and Liverpool as key challengers to Manchester City.
After his team suffered a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, Alonso praised Arsenal’s potential, highlighting Mikel Arteta’s leadership and the club’s ambitious project as significant factors.
Alonso, who guided Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title last season, acknowledged Manchester City’s strength but believes Liverpool and other clubs will also be strong contenders.
With Arsenal’s recent close finishes in the league and their new squad additions, the Premier League title race promises to be exciting. Alonso pointed out, “Arsenal, for sure, is a strong contender. They have been building a solid project under Mikel Arteta. They will definitely challenge the top teams.”
He added, “City will be in the mix, and Liverpool will also be strong this season.”
