According to the Liberian electoral commission, it has begun investigating cases of underage voter registration and voter list duplication, both of which violate the country’s electoral law.
The cases were discovered during an examination of the voter register following the completion of data synchronization from two counties, according to the National Elections Commission (NEC).
Only citizens over the age of 18 are allowed to vote in Liberia.
According to Nec, all ineligible registrants will be removed from the ballot list, and any official found culpable of malpractices will be prosecuted.
In a statement issued on Sunday, it promised to release preliminary voter registration figures soon.
For the first time, NEC will use biometric voter registration for the presidential and legislative elections in October.
Technical issues, such as a shortage of biometric cards, hampered biometric voter registration, preventing some Liberians from registering.
