Lionel Messi just can’t stop making history.
On Wednesday night, the Inter Miami captain delivered yet another masterclass, scoring twice in the first half to lead his team to a 2-1 victory over New England Revolution. With this performance, Messi became the first player ever in Major League Soccer to score two or more goals in four straight league matches—a streak that kicked off back in May.
The energy at Gillette Stadium was electric, and Messi didn’t disappoint. He opened the scoring in the 27th minute, capitalizing on a defensive slip and slotting the ball in with his trusted left foot. Moments later, he struck again—this time with help from a familiar face. Sergio Busquets, his longtime partner-in-crime, slipped him a perfect pass that Messi curled into the net with ease.
“Leo is simply different,” said Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano after the final whistle. “He keeps doing things we never imagined possible at this stage in his career. For me, he’s the greatest to ever play the game.”
New England fought back in the 79th minute with a stunning strike from Carles Gil, but Miami’s defense held strong. Veteran goalkeeper Oscar Ustari stepped up with six big saves to secure the win.
That victory nudged Inter Miami up to fifth in the Eastern Conference, sitting on 35 points—just seven behind leaders FC Cincinnati, even with three games in hand due to their Club World Cup run.
Messi may have had a quieter Club World Cup showing, scoring once in four appearances, but in the MLS? He’s on fire. With 14 goals in just 15 matches, he’s now second on the scoring charts, right behind Nashville’s Sam Surridge.
The numbers speak for themselves—but with Messi, it’s more than just stats. It’s moments, magic, and history in motion.
