Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s only child, died on Thursday at the age of 54.
Priscilla Presley’s representative confirmed her daughter’s death to CBS News.
“Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie,” Priscilla Presley’s publicist said in a statement to CBS News. “They are deeply grateful for everyone’s love, support, and prayers, and ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time.”
Presley’s death was announced just hours after she was rushed to the hospital after going into cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California.
“Lisa Marie, my beloved daughter, was rushed to the hospital. She is now receiving the best possible care “Prisilla Presley posted earlier on Thursday on Facebook. “Please keep her and our family in your thoughts and prayers. We are aware of the prayers from around the world and request privacy during this time.”
Presley, like her late father, was a singer-songwriter who released three albums between 2003 and 2012.
Presley had four marriages. She and her first husband, Danny Keough, had two children: Riley, an actress who has appeared in films like “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Logan Lucky,” and Benjamin, who committed suicide in 2020. After five and a half years of marriage, Keough and Presley divorced in 1994. Three weeks later, Presley married Michael Jackson, but the couple divorced in 1996.
In August 2002, Presley married actor Nicolas Cage. The couple divorced in November 2002, but the divorce was not finalized until 2004.
She was most recently seen in public at the Golden Globes on Tuesday, where she and Priscilla Presley watched Austin Butler win best actor for his performance as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic.
On the red carpet for “Entertainment Tonight,” she described Butler’s performance as “incredible” and “authentic.”
“I can’t even explain what it meant,” she admitted.
Lisa Marie Presley’s death occurred less than a week after Elvis Presley’s 88th birthday.
