Made Kuti has unveiled his second studio album, Chapter 1: Where Does Happiness Come From?—a 13-track body of work that marks a bold, independent turn in his musical journey. For the first time, every song was written and co-produced solely by Made himself, who also takes the lead on vocals and trumpet.
This album leans into the vibrant horns and layered grooves rooted in classic Afrobeat, while weaving in elements of jazz and calypso—clearly influenced by his classical music training in London. Lyrically, it’s a powerful mix of self-exploration and sharp societal critique. Made challenges issues like corruption, bad governance, and materialism, while also digging into themes of personal growth and inner peace.
Songs like “Take It All In Before The Lights Go Out” and “You Can’t Hide” pack the punch of a live concert, while tracks such as “Pray” and “Oya” speak directly to the heart of the political climate. The album wraps up with “After The Tears Flow,” a track that blends introspection with uplifting rhythm.
This release isn’t just another milestone—it’s Made Kuti defining his voice, while carrying forward a powerful musical legacy in his own way.
