Man United Push for Sesko, While City Secure Key Players — Here’s What’s Happening
Manchester United have officially stepped up their interest in Benjamin Sesko, sending a formal offer to RB Leipzig for the 22-year-old striker. The deal reportedly includes €75 million guaranteed, with the full package potentially hitting €85 million.
Sesko is said to be open to the idea of joining United, making the proposal from Old Trafford more than just a hopeful swing. For now, Leipzig hasn’t responded — but the bid has certainly turned heads.
It’s not a one-horse race, though. Newcastle are also pushing hard, with their offer believed to be in the €80 million range. Talks are still ongoing between the Magpies and the Bundesliga side.
What makes United’s move especially interesting is that the club previously held off on making any offer until they were sure Sesko was genuinely interested. Now that they’re confident, things have moved quickly — and there’s even word that Rasmus Hojlund could be on his way out to make room for the Slovenian frontman.
Standing at 6’5″ and already with 39 goals in 87 games for Leipzig, Sesko brings serious presence and promise to any front line.
Despite some past concerns about financial flexibility, United have been working smart. They’ve structured potential deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo — together worth £130 million — in manageable payment terms. Plus, they’re trimming their wage bill thanks to Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona and a £5 million gain from Chelsea’s failed move for Jadon Sancho. Other funds have come through sell-on clauses tied to Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Carreras, and Maxi Oyedele, netting them over £15 million.
Across town, Manchester City are locking down key players. Defender Ruben Dias and young midfielder Nico O’Reilly have both agreed to new deals in principle. Dias, who’s been a rock at the back since his 2020 arrival from Benfica, has racked up over 220 appearances and picked up silverware across every major competition.
O’Reilly, just 20, took his chance last season when injuries rocked the squad. He stepped up, mostly filling in at left-back, and impressed enough to secure his spot.
City are also preparing for some exits. Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips are still in the mix, though neither has a confirmed move just yet. Phillips is recovering from Achilles surgery, which could affect his chances of a summer transfer.
Midfielder James McAtee is being closely watched by clubs like Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and even teams in the Bundesliga. Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega may also be heading out, especially now that James Trafford has arrived — giving City a bit of a logjam in goal.
Elsewhere in Europe, Dutch club Feyenoord have completed the signing of defender Anel Ahmedhodzic from Sheffield United for €18 million. The Bosnian international joins on a four-year deal after making 114 appearances for the Blades.
Speaking on the move, Ahmedhodzic shared his excitement:
“Everything moved so fast, but I couldn’t be happier. It’s a dream to play for a club like Feyenoord. I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get on the pitch with my new teammates — especially with a big match against Fenerbahce coming up.”
Feyenoord are racing against the clock to register him in time for their crucial Champions League qualifier next week.
