Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 list 25 years after it was released. It’s the first time the song has topped the charts.
This is Carey’s 19th number-one hit. This places her just behind the Beatles, who have 20 chart-topping songs.
It’s not the first time “All I Want for Christmas is You” has climbed the charts. Every holiday season, there is a surge in streaming, which propelled the song to the third spot on Billboard’s chart in 2018. That year, it also set a new one-day streaming record on Spotify.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” is also the first-holiday song to top the Hot 100 chart since “The Chipmunk Song” in 1958.
The song is taken from Carey’s 1994 album “Merry Christmas,” which is currently at the top of the Billboard R&B albums chart. Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” tour came to an end Sunday at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
