Angel Torres, the president of Spanish La Liga club, Getafe, has shared that Mason Greenwood, currently on loan from Manchester United, is likely to stay with Getafe for the foreseeable future. Greenwood faced a challenging period in 2022 when he was embroiled in a sexual assault scandal involving him and his partner, Harriet Robson. This incident led to the loss of several endorsement deals, suspension from Manchester United, and a stint in prison until he was later cleared of any wrongdoing.
Despite his clearance, some Manchester United fans remained reluctant to see the 22-year-old forward return to play for the Red Devils. Consequently, Manchester United opted to loan him to Getafe for the 2023-2024 season, where Greenwood has excelled.
With 10 goals and 6 assists in 32 games across all competitions for Getafe this season, Greenwood has proven his worth on the pitch. Although his loan agreement originally slated a return to Manchester United at the season’s end, recent developments suggest otherwise.
According to Torres, both Greenwood and Getafe are inclined to extend his stay. Torres stated in an interview with Spanish radio station Radio Marca, “If it was up to the lad, his parents and the club, I think he would continue for another year.”
Furthermore, Torres mentioned that Manchester United might be open to selling Greenwood if a suitable offer arises, indicating that Greenwood’s future at the English club is uncertain.
“We’ll have to wait until the end of June,” Torres remarked. “The people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will remain with us for another season, or at least until January. He is a good footballer.”
