Matthew McConaughey appears to be eager to take on a new role.
A podcast conversation with McConaughey provided some insight into his current career thinking just days after Paramount Media Networks head Chris McCarthy confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that McConaughey is set to star in a “Yellowstone” spinoff.
On a new “Armchair Expert” episode, Dax Shepard spoke with McConaughey, who said he’s in a different place in his life after spending time writing a memoir in recent years.
“I’m now more interested in going to play another character in a TV show because of the last four years of culminating and writing and getting these things together and getting more into public service,” McConaughey explained. “Right now, the thought of going to act in the right kind of role, in the right kind of movie, film, or series sounds like an awesome vacation.”
“I’ll be a different or improved actor in my own right after these last three years,” the “Dallas Buyers Club” star said of his decision to step back from acting to focus on other projects.
“I have a great deal of respect for the vocation of acting,” McConaughey said. “I believe I have a better relationship now.” I’m not concerned with my survival and thrive-all. I believe that good acting imitates life. “This stuff comes from real life.”
McConaughey was thrust back into the spotlight following a February report that Kevin Costner would be leaving “Yellowstone,” with McConaughey possibly joining the franchise.
“We have no news to report,” a Paramount spokesperson said in a statement at the time.
McCarthy recently told THR that the spinoff starring McConaughey will go forward regardless of how Costner’s role evolves in “Yellowstone.”
