Actors Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors came out in support of actress Angela Bassett after she lost the best supporting actress award to Jamie Lee Curtis at the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday night.
“Hey auntie,” Jordan said as he and Majors took the stage to present the best cinematography award. The words were a direct reference to Jordan’s character Killmonger in 2018’s “Black Panther,” who said the same thing to Basset, who plays Ramonda.
“We love you,” Majors added.

Basset, who was nominated for her role in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” would have become the first Academy Award winner for an acting role in a Marvel film if she had won. Basset received her second Oscar nomination.
Nearly three decades ago, she received her first nomination for best supporting actress for her role as Tina Turner in the 1993 biopic “What’s Love Got To Do With It?”
Basset reflected on her career and opened up to “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King about her heartbreaking loss in 1994 in the run-up to the 95th Academy Awards.
“You’re hoping, praying, wishing in the moment, but I don’t walk away thinking, ‘I’ve been robbed,'” Bassett said. “That’s too negative an emotion for me to carry around for the rest of my life.”
