Even before its release, the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael,” is already making history.
Within 24 hours of its teaser trailer dropping, the Antoine Fuqua-directed film racked up over 116.2 million views, setting a new record for the most-viewed music biopic trailer ever and marking the biggest trailer launch in Lionsgate’s history, according to WaveMetrix. This surpasses previous hits like Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (96.1 million) and Bob Marley: One Love (60.1 million).
Scheduled for cinemas on April 24, 2026, Michael promises to dive deep into the life of the legendary artist. The film goes beyond the music, tracing Michael Jackson’s journey from his early days leading the Jackson Five to becoming a global icon whose creativity and ambition redefined pop culture. With intimate moments and reimagined performances, audiences will get a fresh, up-close look at the King of Pop.
At the center of the story is Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, making his feature film debut as the legendary performer. Sharing his excitement on Instagram, he wrote, “I’m humbled and honoured to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.”
Producer Graham King, who also produced Bohemian Rhapsody, praised Jaafar’s natural connection to the role: “I met Jaafar over two years ago and was blown away by how he embodies Michael’s spirit and personality. Even after a global search, it was clear he was the only one for this role.”
The film also stars Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo, with Juliano Krue Valdi portraying young Michael. Produced by Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain—the team behind This Is It and Thriller 40—the movie promises authenticity and reverence for the late pop star.
Early footage shows Jaafar recreating some of Michael’s most iconic moves, including the moonwalk and scenes reminiscent of the legendary Thriller music video.
Fans are already buzzing in anticipation, eager to see Michael Jackson brought to life on the big screen like never before.
