Key witnesses in the inquest into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, may face subpoenas after failing to appear in court. This follows a request by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, urging the court to ensure their attendance.
Magistrate T. A. Sotobi approved an application for substituted service, allowing witness summons to be delivered through a national newspaper and social media.
Among the witnesses are Azeez Fashola (aka Naira Marley), Samson Eletu (aka Sam Larry), Mohbad’s sister-in-law Karimot Ogunbayo, his lawyer Oluwasanmi Falade, nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated Mohbad before his passing, and driver Fidelis Esanbor, who took the singer to the hospital.
Taiwo Odumosu, the head of the Aloba family’s legal team, confirmed that the only witness present at the recent hearing was Boluwatife Adeyemo, also known as Darosha.
Odumosu explained that if the absent witnesses fail to appear at the next session, the magistrate is likely to issue subpoenas to compel their attendance. He added, “Today’s session was about hearing from key witnesses regarding what led to Mohbad’s death. Only Darosha showed up, but the magistrate has given one final opportunity for the others to attend before subpoenas are issued.”
