Former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has refuted claims made by his successor, Governor Ademola Adeleke, regarding the establishment of the University of Ilesa.
During a visit to the Owa Obokun palace to offer condolences following the passing of Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, Governor Adeleke claimed credit for not only establishing the university but also securing funds for its operations.
Oyetola, however, dismissed Adeleke’s statements as false. Speaking through the Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, Oyetola made it clear that his administration was responsible for establishing the university. He emphasized that it was under his leadership that the university received approval from the National University Commission (NUC) and a governing council was formed.
“There’s no room for controversy here. The facts are clear: it was my administration that established the University of Ilesa,” Oyetola asserted. He added that the approval process with the NUC was completed before a governing council was put in place, a step that could not have occurred without NUC authorization.
He also called out those attempting to distort the truth, stating, “It’s unfortunate that some individuals would resort to misleading claims. The people of Ijesaland know the truth, and when necessary, we will provide all the documents to prove our position.”
Oyetola assured the public that verifiable facts would be made available to set the record straight, dismissing the claims as baseless propaganda.
