According to Nigerian authorities, they discovered 10 young men dead “along a jungle path” in the southern state of Edo.
The remains bore “no obvious evidence of violence,” according to police spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor, and local communities were unable to identify them.
Police officials and local hunters discovered them on Tuesday at a place off the Lagos-Abuja road.
They died under mysterious circumstances.
The police commissioner in Edo state stated that a “strong squad” has been assembled to “fish out the perpetrators of this slaughter.” The authorities have issued a call for calm.
According to the police, all of the men were reportedly in their 20s.
The bodies have currently been transported to a mortuary for forensic analysis.
Armed gangs have been using violence, including assassinations and kidnappings for ransom, to wreak havoc on Nigeria’s security.
Violence between gangs and between communities is also frequent in various areas of the nation.
