Neymar Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time.
His club, Santos FC, shared that the 33-year-old forward began showing symptoms on Thursday, June 5. After a medical evaluation, lab results confirmed the diagnosis. He is currently away from team activities and receiving treatment for his symptoms.
Neymar first battled the virus in 2021 while playing for Paris Saint-Germain. This new infection raises more questions about his return to peak form.
The Brazilian star, who holds the record for most goals scored for the national team, hasn’t been in action for Brazil since a World Cup qualifying match in October 2023, when he suffered a major injury.
That incident ruled him out of the 2024 Copa America and has now led to his exclusion from Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s current squad for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.
While fans hope for his return, his future with the national team remains uncertain.
