Nicki Minaj has added her voice to the rising global calls for an end to the violent attacks plaguing northern Nigeria.
Speaking at a United States Mission to the United Nations conference focused on religious violence and the killing of Christians in Nigeria, the rapper made it clear that no one should ever be harmed because of their beliefs. Her message centered on unity, justice, and the protection of human dignity.
“This isn’t about choosing sides,” she said. “It’s about standing against injustice. It’s what I’ve always stood for.”
She also expressed appreciation to former U.S. President Donald Trump for drawing attention to the crisis and pushing for stronger action to protect victims of extremist attacks.
In recent weeks, Trump has repeatedly spoken about the killings in Nigeria, describing them as alarming and unacceptable. He urged Nigerian authorities to act and later announced the country as one of particular concern. He went as far as warning of possible U.S. military involvement if the situation worsened, stating that his administration would not overlook ongoing violence against Christians.
“If this continues, the U.S. will cut off all aid to Nigeria and may take action,” he wrote on his Truth Social page. “If we move, it will be quick and fierce.”
Nigeria’s government, however, pushed back on the allegations.
In a statement, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said the country values religious freedom and respects all faiths.
“Nigeria celebrates its diversity,” the statement said. “We are a nation guided by respect—respect for faith, tolerance, inclusion, and the principles that shape the global community.”
