Nicki Minaj has certainly kept her fans eagerly awaiting her much-anticipated album, Pink Friday 2. The release date has seen its fair share of changes, initially set for October 20, then postponed to November 17. Now, the LP is set to be unleashed on December 8, which also happens to be the rapper’s birthday.
In an Instagram Live video, Nicki explained the reasons behind the shifting release dates. She expressed her deep passion for the project, saying, “I have never in my life been so in love with something that I’m working on.” She also mentioned that she faced writer’s block during her pregnancy and decided not to include “freaky” content, contributing to the delay.
The new release date also strategically avoids a clash with Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’s joint project, Welcome 2 Collegrove, which is scheduled for November 17. Nicki emphasized that Lil Wayne’s release date was not intended to coincide with hers and clarified that the change had been in the works for some time. She assured her fans, stating, “He would never do that if that was my album date, so I wanted to make sure you guys were aware of that. ‘Cause I saw some of you guys questioning that.”
The rescheduled date holds special significance, as it aligns with Nicki Minaj’s 41st birthday. She expressed her excitement, saying, “The new album date for this incredible body of work that I am so proud of is on a very special day to me and to the Barbz.”
In addition to this update, Nicki Minaj unveiled a new fragrance, also named Pink Friday 2, set to be launched on December 13 and 26 through J.C. Penney and Amazon, respectively.
Pink Friday 2 marks the artist’s first album in five years, following her 2018 release, Queen. During her role as host at the 2023 MTV VMAs, Nicki teased a track called “Big Difference,” which is currently not confirmed to be on the LP.
