It’s with heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of Mohammed Adam Erena, a trusted Special Adviser to Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago on Labour Matters. This loss has deeply affected the entire state, as confirmed by Governor Bago through his chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim.
Governor Bago expressed profound sorrow at the departure of the former secretary to the state government (SSG), recognizing Erena’s steadfast dedication as a public servant. He underscored Erena’s invaluable contributions to the state, highlighting his unwavering commitment to service and tireless efforts in driving Niger State’s development forward.
In his message, Governor Bago offered prayers for Erena’s soul to find peace in Aljannah Firdausi, urging Erena’s family to find solace and strength in faith, understanding that Allah’s will is absolute.
Erena’s service record is one of distinction. He served as the SSG of Niger State during the tenure of the late former governor Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure from 2002 to 2007. Beyond his governmental role, he dedicated himself to the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, both nationally and within Niger State. His leadership extended to the national stage as the vice president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and locally, he chaired the Niger State Council of NLC for two terms. Notably, he held the esteemed position of chairman of the 19 Northern States NLC.
His public service extended to roles as a former permanent commissioner of the Niger State Civil Service Commission and principal of the School of Health Technology. Until his untimely passing, he faithfully served as the special adviser to the former governor on labour matters.
His funeral was attended by dignitaries including the deputy governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, the secretary to the state government (SSG) Abubakar Usman, along with numerous government officials and sympathizers, reflecting the profound impact Erena had on the community.
