Hilda Dokubo Slams Rivers Administrator Over N1.48 Trillion Budget
Nollywood veteran and outspoken activist Hilda Dokubo isn’t staying silent. In a recent video making the rounds online, she called out Rivers State’s sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-ette Ibas (retired), for what she described as an alarming lack of transparency in how the state is being run.
Clearly frustrated, Dokubo said the people of Rivers are being ruled, not governed—a system where decisions are made behind closed doors, far removed from public input or oversight.
At the center of her outrage? A massive N1.48 trillion state budget that she claims was approved without any form of legislative process or community engagement.
“No elected officials were involved. No debate. No questions asked. One man signed off on nearly 1.5 trillion naira like it was nothing,” she said in the video. “Just like that, our shared resources—our future—put on paper without a single voice from the people it’s meant to serve.”
Dokubo went further, picking apart specific budget items she found troubling. She questioned why N24 billion was earmarked for new CCTV systems at the Government House—especially when the place is already well secured. Another N30 billion was tagged for the purchase of gunboats, a move she said raises more questions than answers.
“The numbers don’t add up, and the motives are unclear,” she added. “You don’t need to be an economist to see that something’s off.”
Her message was fiery but focused—an appeal for accountability, not just outrage.
“This is not governance. This is one person playing god with the people’s money,” she said.
Dokubo has long used her platform to speak out on social and political issues, but this message struck a different chord—one that echoed the growing frustration among citizens who feel unheard and sidelined in the decisions that shape their daily lives.
