Afrobeats sensation Davido recently set a groundbreaking record on TikTok, capturing the largest live-stream audience ever in Africa. Hosted alongside popular creators Peller, Jarvis, and Jo Blaq, the October 30 session brought in a massive 389,800 viewers, with 164,000 tuning in simultaneously, shattering the previous record set by Peller and Tiwa Savage.
The stream also generated an impressive 377 lion gifts, each worth $400. Davido, showing appreciation for his co-hosts, announced that all earnings from the gifts would go to Peller, Jarvis, and Jo Blaq.
Reflecting on his journey, Davido recently shared his story of finding success after completing his education at Babcock University. Speaking at the 2024 LAS Annual Summit, he opened up about the choices that led him to pursue music instead of following a conventional career path.
“I relate a lot to this topic because I’m a prime example of success post-school. After graduating, I chose music, but unlike my siblings, who took more traditional paths, my family supported my decision,” he explained.
He highlighted that his path wasn’t the norm in his family, where most were encouraged to follow a corporate route. “My family’s expectation was to go to school and then work—either in my dad’s company or elsewhere. I took a different direction,” Davido shared.
Davido also emphasized that success varies for everyone, saying, “For some, success comes quickly; for others, it’s a journey of working hard and rising through the ranks.” His story is a testament to carving your own path and finding success on your own terms.
