The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill that recommends life imprisonment without the option of a fine for those who manufacture illegal explosives in the country.
According to local media, the bill was passed on Wednesday after a senate committee on solid minerals, mines, steel development, and metallurgy considered and adopted a report.
According to the lawmakers, criminals are becoming more creative in their use of explosives to commit crimes.
They claimed that suicide bombers used explosives to kill dozens of Nigerians.
The bill will be debated in the House of Representatives before being sent to the President for his signature.
The majority of explosives used by insurgents are reportedly made from locally available ammonium nitrate and carbamide.
