Aliyu Wadada, the Social Democratic Party’s candidate for the Nasarawa West Senatorial District election, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Wadada is expected to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu, who resigned his seat in the National Assembly’s Red Chamber after being elected National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The Returning Officer of the election, Prof Nasir Baba, declared Wadada of the SDP the winner on Monday in Keffi, the headquarters of the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, having polled 96,488 votes to beat the APC senatorial candidate, Shehu Tukur, who polled 47,717 votes.

“I, Associate Prof. Nasir Baba, hereby certify that I am the senatorial returning officer for the 2023 Nasarawa West Senatorial District election, which will be held on February 25th, 2023. The election was not without controversy. The following candidates received votes:
“Jatau Justice of the ADC received 1,117 votes; Bala Tongorma of the LP received 33,228 votes; Wakil Kabiru of the NNPP received 2,667 votes; Umar Musa Galadima of the PDP received 46,820 votes; and Jibrin Sani Shehu of the ZLP received 880 votes.
“That Aliyu Wadada Ahmed of the SDP is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” the Returning Officer added.
