The Independent National Electoral Commission has rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections for Sunday for the affected voting units in the four registration zones of Bayelsa State’s Yenagoa Local Government Area.
Our correspondent reported that INEC personnel were not there at the polling locations in Yenagoa as of 10:30 a.m.
Voters, observers, security operators, and journalists were observed waiting for the commission’s officers and ballot papers at the Fakulu Health Centre polling unit, Epie 3, and Ayemeze polling unit 004, also in Epie 3.
Wilfred Ifogah, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity at the Yenagoa office, said in a statement on Saturday that the rescheduled exercise would take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Sunday
He stated that the elections were moved to Sunday as a result of the Saturday disruption.
A voter identified as Adolfus Johnson from the Amarata village expressed disappointment with the INEC’s failure to uphold their promise.
“I am discouraged because INEC cannot uphold its promise,” he remarked.
We went here yesterday but were unable to vote because INEC officials were not present.”
Ifogah stated that “electoral officers are on their way” when called.
