Commonwealth observers described Nigeria’s election as “largely peaceful” in a statement.
Former South African President Thabo Mbeki, the chairperson of the Commonwealth Observer Group, stated that people’s constitutional right to vote has been largely respected.
“We congratulate all Nigerians on their perseverance, patience, and resilience throughout the electoral process,” Mbeki said.

He did, however, highlight challenges, such as some polling units lacking adequate lighting, and suggested that Inec conduct a post-election review.
He also stated that those who have complaints about the election should file them through the appropriate legal channels.
Commonwealth observers were present in the states of Benue, Edo, Kano, Lagos, Ondo, Rivers, and Sokoto, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja).
The group will depart on March 2nd, after which they will submit a full report.
