The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Badagry, Lagos State, handed over eight sacks of seized Indian hemp valued at ₦12.8 million to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The seizure was made following a tip-off about suspected smuggling activities in the Abojedo community around Sultan Beach, Badagry. Lt. Adedeji Adeyemi, representing the Base’s commander, disclosed that naval operatives, acting on intelligence, conducted a cordon-and-search operation, recovering the suspected Indian hemp. The suspects fled upon the patrol team’s arrival, and no other products or suspects were found in the adjoining communities.
Operation Water Guard, launched on November 9, 2023, aims to curb smuggling and criminal activities in Badagry, ensuring regional security and economic stability. The handover of the seized items aligns with the Harmonised Standard Operating Procedures for Arrest, Detention, and Prosecution of Persons (2016). Emmanuel Ogbogoh, representing the NDLEA Area Commander, Seme Special Command, received the exhibits, pledging a thorough investigation. He emphasized the collaborative effort with the Nigerian Navy in combating drug trafficking, highlighting the NDLEA’s commitment to addressing the issue with the support of partner agencies.
