John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to revamp the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy by discontinuing the supply of food items to SHSs through the National Food Buffer Stock Company.
Mahama intends to redirect feeding grants to SHS heads, empowering them to procure food items for students.
During his Building Ghana Tour in Kambatiak, North East Region, Mahama assured that under his leadership, the procurement of food items for SHSs would be decentralized.
“We plan to decentralize the cooking and procurement of food for students. SHS heads will take charge of procuring food directly from local farmers. By decentralizing procurement, SHS heads can purchase various nutritious food items like groundnuts, beans, and vegetables, ensuring students receive a balanced diet. Hence, feeding grants will be allocated directly to SHSs, empowering heads to purchase quality food for students. Our aim is to enhance the Free SHS program,” Mahama stated.
