Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Baba, has opened up for the first time about his split from his longtime partner, Annie Macaulay. The couple, who officially became husband and wife in May 2012, had been through a lot together. But in early 2025, 2Baba confirmed their separation and revealed he’s now in a relationship with Natasha Osawaru, a lawmaker from Edo State.
Speaking during a recent chat on the 234 Mzansi Podcast with Nedu, the singer shared that they both did their best to hold things together but, in the end, it just wasn’t working.
“We tried,” he said. “We really did. But some things just don’t stay the same. I won’t go into details, but Annie is an incredible woman. Sometimes, no matter how much effort is put in, it’s better to walk away than stay stuck in something that’s no longer bringing peace.”
2Baba emphasized that no one should feel pressured to remain in a situation that’s emotionally draining simply because of public expectations or societal standards.
“You shouldn’t suffer in silence or pretend for people’s approval,” he added. “Too many people live sad lives trying to please others. If a relationship becomes unbearable, it’s okay to let go. Only the two people in it truly know what’s going on.”
He also shared a controversial opinion during the conversation, one that’s sure to stir debate: “I’ll speak for myself, but I believe it’s not in a man’s natural design to be sexually tied to just one woman. You can love, honor, and deeply care for someone, but biologically, the struggle is real. Many men find themselves in difficult situations because of this.”
2Baba was quick to clarify that this doesn’t excuse infidelity or poor choices—it’s just his personal take on a topic many avoid.
