Veteran Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has opened up about one of his biggest regrets—disappointing gospel singer Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji, on their wedding day.
In a recent interview on Baba Ibe TV, Igwe shared that years ago, he had promised to lend the couple his newly acquired luxury car for their special day. However, he failed to keep his word, leaving them without the ride they had counted on.
He recalled that after the success of his hit movie Ololade Mr Money, he had just purchased a Mercedes-Benz “V Boot” and proudly inscribed his name on the car. But an unfortunate incident shook his confidence—while on a trip to Ibadan, armed robbers stole the vehicle. Though it was later recovered, the experience left him hesitant.
As Tope Alabi’s wedding day approached, Igwe admitted that fear took over. He began worrying about what might happen if another incident occurred while the car was in their possession. In the end, he avoided her calls and went back on his promise.
Now, looking back, he says it’s a decision he deeply regrets. Though Tope Alabi has since found great success and owns multiple luxury cars, Igwe admits he still feels guilt whenever he remembers that moment. He has since apologized to her, but the memory lingers as one of his biggest disappointments.
