Timini Egbuson is proof that not getting what you want can sometimes be the best thing that ever happens.
In a recent chat on The Culture League podcast, the Nollywood actor opened up about a time he was just steps away from joining Big Brother Africa. Bags were packed, social media manager hired, everything was set—but the final call never came.
Looking back, Timini sees it differently now.
“That year, I didn’t get into Big Brother Africa… but I ended up landing a role on MTV Shuga Naija, and that changed everything for me,” he shared.
He reflected on how life often redirects us in ways we don’t understand at first. “There were things I really wanted and didn’t get, and things I got that others hoped for too. But when I think about it now, some of those ‘missed’ chances would’ve taken me off track completely.”
Timini believes everything unfolded exactly as it should’ve. “This path I’m on—it’s where I’m meant to be. And not being picked for Big Brother might have saved me from getting caught up in temporary hype that fades.”
His message? Sometimes what feels like a closed door is really just a push in the right direction. “You take the ‘L’, keep moving, and trust that something better is coming. That’s one tough but important lesson I’ve learned.”
