Patience Ozokwor Mourns the Loss of Onyeka Onwenu
Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor is deeply saddened by the passing of her colleague and Nigerian music legend, Onyeka Onwenu.
Onwenu tragically collapsed after performing at Stella Okolie’s 80th birthday party in Lagos on Tuesday. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
Reacting to the news, Patience Ozokwor expressed her profound grief, describing the loss as incredibly painful. She noted that Onwenu, who was not known to be ill, was both a colleague and a friend.
Ozokwor voiced her frustration, saying, “It’s heartbreaking to lose someone like Onyeka, especially when she wasn’t sick. It feels like there’s so much loss and stress in this country right now.”
Onyeka Onwenu began her illustrious music career in the 1980s with her debut album, “For the Love of You,” released in 1981. Her hit song “One Love” and numerous other albums cemented her status as a music icon. She was also a celebrated Nollywood actress and had a significant impact on the industry.
In addition to her artistic achievements, Onwenu was involved in politics and made valuable contributions to Nigerian society.
President Bola Tinubu has also extended his condolences to the entertainment industry following Onwenu’s death. In a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed his sympathy to Onwenu’s family and praised her contributions to music. He also prayed for her soul to find peace.
