Michelle Yeoh returned home with tears in her eyes after becoming the first Malaysian to win best actress at the Oscars for her role as Evelyn Wang in the sci-fi comedy film Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.
“We should never let anyone put us in a box.” That’s always been my goal: to avoid being put in a box. “I honestly wouldn’t have worked as much if I hadn’t been put in a box,” an emotional Yeoh said during a homecoming press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

“Do you want the Oscar, hell yeah, of course, I want the Oscar, who doesn’t right, I’m not going to beat around the bush and say no,” she continued. No, because it means so much to so many of us, and I must say, I heard the roar of joy and happiness all the way from New York to Los Angeles, so I’d like to thank everyone.”
“It is critical in our industry that you are truly passionate about what you do because you never know what is around the corner… “It’s not like you have a steady job,” the actress concluded.
