Pan Niger Delta Forum Leader, Edwin Clark, Passes Away at 97
Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a prominent advocate for national unity and regional development, has passed away at the age of 97. His family confirmed the news through a statement released on Tuesday.
“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, announces the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, OFR, CON, on Monday, February 17, 2025. We appreciate your prayers at this time. Further details will be shared in due course,” the statement read.
Clark dedicated his life to championing the interests of the Niger Delta, fostering peace among communities, and playing a key role in national discourse. He was instrumental in efforts to reconcile political differences, including the mediation between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his political mentor, Nyesom Wike.
His passing follows closely after the demise of Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, further marking the loss of two highly respected statesmen. Both figures played pivotal roles in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape and were actively involved in calls for national restructuring.
In 2022, they joined other leaders at the Greater Nigeria Conference in Abuja to discuss equitable leadership representation. They were also vocal supporters of implementing recommendations from the 2014 National Conference, believing it held the key to addressing the country’s political and economic challenges.
Clark’s legacy as a fearless advocate for justice, development, and unity will be remembered across Nigeria.
