Head coach Didier Deschamps picks Antoine Griezmann as vice-captain
The French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Tuesday that Paris Saint-Germain star forward Kylian Mbappe has been named the new captain of France by head coach Didier Deschamps.
Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid has been named vice-captain of the team, according to the federation.
Hugo Lloris, France’s most-capped player with 145 appearances, 121 of them as captain, announced his retirement from international football in January.
Mbappe, 24, scored 36 goals in 66 appearances for France, while Griezmann, 32, scored 42 goals in 117 appearances.
With the Blues, both players won the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
