Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee, has dismissed rumors that the party is planning to suspend Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), along with other members. The speculated suspension reportedly stems from allegations that Wike and three former governors acted against the party during the 2023 general elections.
After a meeting with members of the National Assembly on Monday, Oyinlola clarified that these reports are simply unconfirmed rumors. He stated, “Until after our committee meets with the National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday, Wike’s suspension remains just speculation.”
Oyinlola, a former governor of Osun State, explained that the discussions with lawmakers focused on identifying the political challenges within the PDP and exploring solutions to strengthen the party. “We’ve had productive discussions and received valuable input on how to rebuild unity within the party and restore its strength,” he added.
Stressing the importance of unity for success, Oyinlola remarked, “For any party to succeed, it must be united. That’s what we’re working toward.”
He also mentioned that the committee had completed its tour of the South West, where efforts are underway to prepare for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State on November 16. While withholding specific strategies, Oyinlola noted, “With 30 years of experience, a general doesn’t reveal his strategy publicly if he wants to win the war.”
