The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to Atiku Abubakar’s decision to leave the party, urging Nigerians to shift their focus from political drama to the pressing realities of daily life.
A senior member of the PDP’s National Working Committee, speaking in Abuja, said the attention given to Atiku’s move is misplaced. “This isn’t the first time he’s left. It won’t be the last,” the official remarked. “But while people are fixated on this, millions are dealing with hunger, joblessness, and rising hardship. Is this really what we should be concerned about right now?”
The official stressed that political defections are not new and should not distract from the challenges citizens are battling across the country.
Similarly, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde weighed in, brushing off Atiku’s exit as insignificant. Speaking in Akure during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, Makinde said the party should not be held back by individuals who are no longer aligned with its direction. “No one is forced to stay. People are free to join and free to leave,” he said.
Both voices from the PDP made it clear: the party is moving on, and so should the country.
