Pele, an 82-year-old football hero from Brazil, was admitted to the hospital once more for a “reevaluation” of his care after being diagnosed with a colon tumor last year, according to his physicians.
Pele, real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was checked into a hospital in Sao Paulo “for a reevaluation of his chemotherapy treatment for the colon tumor detected in September 2021,” according to a statement from his medical staff.
“Without the need for intensive or semi-intensive care, he was brought to a regular room… He is stable and fully in charge of his vital functions, the statement continued.
Kely Nascimento, Pele’s daughter, assured his supporters that there was “no emergency.”
“There is (no) crisis or new grave forecast… We value the kindness and concern, she said on Instagram.
Flavia Nascimento, another daughter, refuted allegations that “The King” of football had deteriorated.
She said in a video that there had been some uncertainty since her father had visited the hospital for various testing and that the visit was part of usual care “to monitor his cancer.”
He loves and really needs that World Cup energy, so please keep sending it, I beg you.
Pele, who is widely regarded as the best footballer who has ever lived, has recently had deteriorating health.
Since his colon cancer diagnosis last year, he has been receiving regular chemotherapy treatments.
In September 2021, he underwent surgery to remove the tumor, which involved a month in the hospital.
Pele has one of the most legendary careers in sports and is the only player in history to have won three World Cups (1958, 1962, and 1970). Before retiring in 1977, he scored more than 1,000 goals.
Although he now makes fewer public appearances, he nevertheless keeps an active social media presence and recently urged the Brazilian national team to “bring this trophy home” from the World Cup in Qatar.
At a news conference in Doha, current Brazilian international Alex Telles stated that the team was hoping for a quick recovery for Pele.
Talking about our “King,” who represents us to the entire world, is difficult. He needs to be steadfast so he may be with us, I pray. Hugs to his family, everything would be okay, the Sevilla defender assured them.
