Manchester City celebrated a historic season by securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League trophies in the 2022/23 campaign. With the defending champions currently trailing Arsenal by six points in the standings, speculation arises about their potential to replicate last season’s remarkable achievements.
In a surprising twist, manager Pep Guardiola has expressed confidence in City’s ability to clinch the Premier League title and has gone as far as stating that he would retire if they achieve the treble again. Speaking ahead of City’s clash with Aston Villa, Guardiola shared with Amazon Prime, “If we win the treble this season, I’ll retire. That’s for sure.”

Acknowledging the formidable challenge, Guardiola emphasized the difficulty of achieving such a feat, noting the rarity of teams accomplishing it in English football. He pointed out that only Sir Alex Ferguson’s team and City themselves from the previous season have achieved the treble.
Guardiola urged a focus on the immediate challenges rather than prematurely thinking about the title race in the early months of the season. City has faced challenges this season, especially in the absence of star midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, contributing to inconsistencies.

However, Guardiola remains steadfast in his belief that City will find their form when needed and secure an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title. He expressed optimism based on the team’s performances against strong opponents like Liverpool and Tottenham, confident that they can overcome the current six-point deficit.
While acknowledging the difficulty and the absence of any team achieving a fourth consecutive title, Guardiola remains resolute, stating, “If you ask me today what I’m feeling, we’re going to do it again.” As the season unfolds, City aims to prove doubters wrong and continue their pursuit of success on multiple fronts.
